Tottenham v Chelsea match preview

Tottenham host Chelsea on the Premier League match if the weekend. This will be the first time that Mourinho faces his old Chelsea team since he has been appointed the Spurs manager. It will be the second time in three weeks that he faces an old club and he will be hoping his team can get a better result than they did against Manchester United.

Since Mourinho took over from Pochettino after the Sheffield United match, Spurs have only lost one match in the league, which was against United, winning the other four. One thing that will concern Mourinho though is his side's defensive issues. In those five league matches, his team have conceded seven goals which is quite high for a Mourinho team.

Mourinho will be trying to sort out his defensive issues out soon and get his side to produce more clean sheets. Spurs have still been able to climb from the bottom half of the table to now sit in 5th place only three points behind Chelsea. A win would put them above Chelsea due to their superior goal difference.

Chelsea have been on a poor run of form in the league recently, winning only one of their last five domestic matches. This has allowed other teams like Spurs to catch up to them in the race for the top four and will have made Lampard nervous about their position.

Chelsea had a very good period after a shaky start and were looking like guaranteed top 4 candidates. But recent results have shown that this is still a young Chelsea team that needs time to gel and fully understand Lampard’s ideas.

Lampard will probably change up his team as they look lethargic in their last defeat to Bournemouth. Since Pulisic has come into the team, he and Mount just don’t seem to gel on the left-hand side, and both could be axed for the weekend.

Both teams need a win to boost their confidence, but this match looks like it could end in a stalemate as neither team will want to lose either.

Predicted score: Tottenham 1-1 Chelsea.
