Portugal third team to win first two matches

The Euros are getting into the more serious part of the tournament. Where it’s all open in the first round of the group stage, the second round already gets teams through to the next round. With the new format, which only drops the numbers 4 out of the group and the two worst numbers 3, the eliminations only start from this round. Every current number four still can qualify for the knockout stages. Poland is currently looking the worst with 0 points, 3 points behind the number three. In all the other groups the difference between numbers 3 and 4 is zero or one. On the top there are a few teams who made the best impression so far.

Germany

The home nation is the first team to win match 1 and 2. After 5-1 against Scotland they won 2-0 against Hungary. Especially the first match was very impressive. They got the perfect combination of young talents like Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala, with experienced players like Toni Kroos and Manuel Neuer. This Germany side is really a team to recon with during this tournament. It will be interesting to see if they start some other players in the third match to rest some of the top players for the knockout stages.

Spain

Just like Germany, Spain is another side that has the perfect combination of young talents and experienced players. All the attention goes to the youngster Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams. They can excel because of the presence of Rodri and Alvaro Morata. Spain arguably has the hardest opponents so far this tournament, but still beat both Croatia and Italy. Becoming the second team to win both their first two matches.

Portugal

On the final matchday of round 2, Portugal joined the teams to win both their first two matches. After a late 2-1 win over Czech Republic, Portugal beat Turkey with an easy 3-0 victory. This shows Portugal is also ready to battle for the final this year. After the second win we saw an increase in attention for Euro 2024 final tickets amongst Portuguese fans. The faith is really growing in Portugal.
