Chelsea Man United recap
Chelsea drew at home to Manchester united on the weekend. Rudiger put Chelsea in front from a corner, but two goals from Martial in the second half meant that Chelsea needed a 96th minute equalizer from Ross Barkely to avoid a first home defeat of the season. The Blues dominated the first half and were 1-0 up at half time. However, after the break United came out looking like a different team. They were pressing higher, getting the ball into more dangerous areas and Chelsea couldn’t cope with it. Hazard was not playing at his best and Chelsea looked like they missed his spark in the second half.
Another reoccurring issue for Chelsea is the lack of goals from their strikers. On the weekend Morata started but did not contribute too much to the team. At times he looked lost in the game and was nowhere to be seen before he was replaced by Giroud on the 79th minute. Morata has three goals in 12 goals in all competitions this season which is not good enough for a team like Chelsea. However, Giroud also only has two goals to his name and none in the Premier League. This is something Chelsea need to sort out in January because, as seen on Saturday, when Hazard is not firing, Chelsea are missing a finisher.
With that being said Chelsea did not lose to a big 6 rival and maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League. The equalizer sparked a brawl in the dugouts and one of Chelsea’s assistants celebrated in front of Mourinho. This led to Mourinho jumping out of his seat in anger and un savory scenes between the two sides.
After the match Mourinho told BT Sport: “I'm not annoyed with anything. Sarri said he would solve the problem with his assistant internally and he then came to me and apologized and I said if he really meant it then okay, I accept.”
Mourinho and his men face Juventus on Tuesday, with Ronaldo making a return to Old Trafford. While Chelsea host BATE in the Europa League on Thursday.
