Manchester United v Arsenal preview

Manchester United and Arsenal play each other on Wednesday evening and are in very different periods at the moment. Arsenal are going through the post-Wenger phase at the moment. After having the same manager for 22 years many expected Arsenal to struggle this season. That has not been the case and the team look reinvigorated.

Arsenal beat Tottenham on the weekend in the first North London derby of the season. Watching the game, it looked like a completely different team to last season under Wenger. They looked solid, and apart from the two goals Tottenham scored in quick succession they never looked like they were going to beat them. Emery’s side have not lost a game in 19 matches in all competitions and are playing very good football.

Manchester United on the other hand had to come from two goals down to beat Southampton on Saturday. They are not in their best period at the moment. They have not won in three Premier League games and based on the way both teams are playing, they will struggle to beat Arsenal.

Lindelof, who was recently voted United’s player of the month, will be out with injury. Sanchez also has been ruled out until the new year. Both Smalling and Bailly also have knocks and might not be fit for the game leaving United with limited options at the back.

Arsenal will be without Ozil, who has injured his back. However, they did not seem to miss him on Sunday against Spurs. Monreal was also missing on the weekend and will not recover in time for this match. Welbeck is a long-term injury and will probably not feature again until the end of the season.

This fixture used to be the biggest game in the season that everyone marked in their calendar. However, these days it doesn’t have as much significance in terms of who will win the title. However, there is still a big rivalry there and both teams will want to come away with the victory. Based on form and performances, Arsenal will come out victorious which will leave United even further away from the top 4.
