FA Cup final preview Man City v Watford

This weekend is the FA Cup final between Watford and Manchester City. Manchester City are looking to win the third trophy of a domestic treble, whereas Watford are in their first final since 1984. City will be coming into the game on a big high after winning one of the tightest Premier League title races last weekend.

On paper it would seem that Manchester City would win this match easily. However, in an FA Cup final, you can never know what will happen. In 2013 Manchester City played against Wigan in the FA Cup final and they ended up losing 1-0 to a Wigan team who were relegated. So, there are no guarantees in the final. There will be various battles on the pitch, but the main ones will be between Laporte and Deeney, where Laporte will be trying to make sure the Watford captain doesn’t get the ball and can hold it up for his teammates. Then Zinchenko will probably start the match and he will have to come against Deulofeu and will have to try to stop him making the same impact he did in the semi-finals. Then the battle of the midfield will be determined between Gundogan and Doucoure and who can shield their defense better. Holebas has his red card rescinded and will be available to play in the final, however, he will have his hands full trying to deal with Sterling. Then Britos will be on Aguero trying to not let him find any spaces where he can have a shot on goal. The match will be decided on who can win these battles.

City have not won the FA Cup since 2011 where they beat Stoke in the final. Watford will be looking to win their first piece of silverware since they won the play-off final in 2006. Watford have had a good season for most of it, however, they lost their three last matches and missed out on a top half finish. With that being said we expect City to win comfortably.

Predicted score- Manchester City 3 -1 Watford.
