Manchester City Tottenham preview

Manchester City host Tottenham on Saturday in the Premier League match of the weekend. Last season’s first place team facing last season’s third place team and it promises to be a cracking match.

Last season the two teams faced each other 4 times, with three of those matches coming in the space of 11 days. They played each other in the Champions League quarter-final and then in the league the following weekend. The second leg of the quarter-final was one of the most entertaining matches of football and even though City won the match 4-3 they lost on away goals as Tottenham won the first match 1-0.

City were victorious in both league games last season, but only winning by a fine margin of 1-0 both times. Both of those matches were tight, and Spurs definitely could have come away with a result in both matches.

Spurs will be looking to upset the Champions in only the second weekend. In the opening day of the season, Tottenham beat Aston Villa 3-1 but needed two late goals from Kane to seal the Victory.

City on the other hand, absolutely blew away West Ham, beating them 0-5 with Sterling bagging himself a hattrick and starting the season right where he left it.

Both teams can send out a statement on Saturday depending on how the match goes. City could show that they are not going to give up top spot and are just as eager to win their third straight title. Whereas Spurs can also show that that they are here to compete for the top spot.

City will again be without Sane who injured his ACL against Liverpool in the Community Shield, and Mendy is also still out. Spurs will be without Alli and Foyth who are both injured, with Son still being suspended also will not feature.

This match might come a little too early for Spurs in the season, as a few of their main players are out or not up to full match fitness. I still expect it to be a tight game with lots of goals but City to come out victorious.
