Chelsea v Arsenal match preview January 2020

Chelsea host Arsenal tonight in the Premier League. tonight. Both teams are currently going through a bit of a tough period. Chelsea started the season so brightly and were over performing according to many people but now have hit a bit of a stubbing block which was bound to happen with their young squad.

It is not to say that they are having a bad season, however, with their transfer ban meant they were not able to bring anyone in. Their youngsters were given the chance and have shone until now but seem to be having a mid-season dip. Their players such and Mount and Abraham have not been putting in the same performances as they were at the start of the season when they were scoring for fun. It looks like they are in need of some rest and that can come from their mid-season break in a couple of weeks.

Since Arteta came in at Arsenal the performances have been slightly better, but the results have not improved that much. Since the Spaniard took over they have actually only won one match against Manchester United and they are currently in 10th, ten points behind Chelsea in fourth.

Arteta’s has also only lost one so far coming against Chelsea less a month ago when his team were winning most of the match until the final 10 minutes where Chelsea scored twice to win it. Arsenal will still be without their Captain Aubameyang as he is suspended after getting a red card against Crystal Palace. Martinelli started the last match and even scored but Arteta will probably go for more experience for a match of this pedigree. Nelson Kolasinac, Tierney and Chambers are all also out.

Arsenal have not won at Stamford Bridge in their last seven visits with the last win coming in 2011 when they won 3-5 in a thrilling match. To add to that, Arsenal have only won one out of their last 10 away matches which doesn’t make good reading for Arsenal fans. With both teams not at their best, this could be a tight match with only a goal to separate them.
