England vs. Netherlands, International Friendly Preview

Stuart Pearce has taken charge of the England team since Fabio Capello's exit as the Netherlands, runners-up for the World Cup, travel to Wembley for a friendly match on Wednesday evening. Pearce told England players that they shouldn't get distracted for Capello's search as the Euro 2012 season looms. The FA placed Pearce in charge for the game on Wednesday with Harry Redknapp tipped as the favourite for the full-time role. Former Manchester City boss added six Man. City men to the roster for the friendly Holland match including Cleverly and Rooney, but both have since been ruled out of play. Rooney remains on the sidelines with a throat infection and Cleverly's ankle injury leaves him out of play alongside Darren Bent. Steven Gerrard is hoping to get back into the game by making his first international football appearance since late 2010. The possibility of a midfield partnership with Parker would let Gerrard get forward position and remain more of a scoring threat. Sneijder's ability to target his teammates from a distance and the threat he poses in dead-ball situations is just as threatening to England and something the team need to remain wary of. In the 18 games between the two nations, England have only won five, nine have ended in draws and the Netherlands have won four. This will be Holland's first journey to the new Wembley Stadium.
