FA Cup semi-finals recap 2020

This weekend was mainly about the FA Cup, combined with some Premier League matches. In the Premier League, Burnley won against Norwich City, Southampton beat Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur won against Leicester City. A result that brought a smile on Mancunians faces. Manchester United can take 4th spot when they get a result in the match against West Ham United on Wednesday. First, they played Chelsea in the semi-final of the FA Cup. A match that quickly removed the smiles on their faces. In this article we discuss both semi-finals.

Manchester City versus Arsenal

The first semi-final looked was very interesting one. The FA Cup holders against the record winner of this cup. Manchester City won their last seven matches against Arsenal so they were the clear favourites at the start of this match. The Cityzens had the first big opportunity, but failed to put it behind Martinez. From that moment on Man City dominated the match, but Arsenal created the chances. Aubameyang missed a sitter to give his team the lead. A few minutes later he did much better and actually scored the 1-0 for Arsenal. Manchester City tried to get the equaliser on the board, but the Gunners defended amazingly well. Mikel Arteta really seems to make a difference at the club. The Arsenal defense was an absolute wall and Man City wasn’t able to break through this wall. Another counterattack in the second half led to the 2-0 for Arsenal. A deserved victory brings the Gunners back to Wembley for another FA Cup final.

Chelsea versus Manchester United

These two teams are rivals for a top 4 finish in the Premier League, and also for a FA Cup final ticket. Man United rested some of their important players and changed their formation. From the start it was clear these changes didn’t work for them. Chelsea was the better team from the start of the match. It was Olivier Giroud who opened the score for the Blues late in injury time of the first half. Right after the start of the second half it was Mason Mount who tried a shot from far out. David de Gea had to make an easy safe, but he failed to stop the ball. Even after the goal and some subs, Man United wasn’t able to create real chances. An own goal by Maguire ended Man United’s hopes to reach the final. Even a late penalty goal by Bruno Fernandes didn’t change that. Chelsea won the match with 3-1 and it will be an all London final at Wembley.
