Four English teams are involved in the UEFA Champions League 2021-2022 season. They all qualified before the final day of the group stage. In this article we discuss the result of all four teams and the place they finished in their group this group stage. Read here all about the Champions League of Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool.
RB Leipzig versus Manchester City
Manchester City started this match as group leader and already knew they were group winner. This lack of motivation to get anything out of this match showed immediately. RB Leipzig took the lead in the 24th minute a goal that brings them in the third place of the group. A place that means Europa League football after the winter break. Andre Silva doubled the lead in the 71st minute. Riyad Mahrez scored one back for Manchester City to get the tension back in the game. Only a few minutes later Kyle Walker got a sent off. This pretty much killed of the game. RB Leipzig won with 2-1, but Man City keeps the first spot in the group.

AC Milan versus Liverpool
Liverpool had 15 points out of their first 5 group stage matches. This match against AC Milan was their chance to keep the full 100% going. AC Milan had a slight chance on the knockout stages, but needed to win against Liverpool and pray Porto versus Atletico Madrid ended in a draw. Former Chelsea defender Tomori opened the score early in the first half. Who else than Mohamed Salah scored the equaliser for Liverpool. Early in the second half Divock Origi scored the 1-2 for Liverpool. It was the last goal, so Liverpool keeps the full 100% score in this Champions League campaign.

Manchester United versus Young Boys
This was Man United’s second match under Ralf Ragnick’s reign. The German manager had the perfect opportunity to see some other players going for it. Qualification for the knockout stages was already achieved. That’s why he started with a completely different team. A team that clearly wasn’t used to play with each other. Mason Greenwood opened the score for Man United, but at the end of the first half Young Boys drew level. The second wasn’t the most entertaining half of football. The 1-1 score remained on the board and Man United secured their first place in the group.

Zenit St Petersburg versus Chelsea
The most interesting match of the English contenders was the one in Russia. Chelsea was in a big fight with Juventus for the first place in the group. A win in this match would seal the deal for the Blues. Timo Werner opened the score in the 2nd minute for Chelsea. 2 goals late in the first half, got Zenit on a 2-1 advantage at half-time. When Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner both scored a goal in the second half, it looked like Chelsea got the first place in the bag. In the 94th minute Zenit scored the 3-3 and dropped Chelsea to the second place in the group.
