With an average of almost 5 goals per match, Boxing Day couldn’t be more exciting for the neutral football fans. In this article we briefly discuss all 6 Boxing Day matches.

Manchester City versus Leicester City

We start with the most exciting match of all on Boxing Day 2022. Manchester City was by far the better team in the first half, which led to a 4-0 lead at half-time. In the first 20 minutes of the second half, Leicester City got back into the game with 3 goals, bringing the score back to 4-3. With the tension back in the game, Man City woke up and decided this match with goals by Laporte and Sterling. A great 6-3 victory for Manchester City to keep the top spot on the Premier League table.

Norwich City versus Arsenal

Arsenal is on a great run of form this season, while Norwich tries to get away from the relegation zone. The Gunners played some great football with Martin Odegaard as the creator. Aaron Ramsdale didn’t had a lot to do and kept a clean sheet, while the forwards managed to score 5 goals. A great 5-0 victory for Arsenal, which will give them a confidence boost for facing Man City and Tottenham Hotspur next.

Tottenham Hotspur versus Crystal Palace

The change of manager clearly changed something at Spurs. Since Antonio Conte is at the helm, the players in total walk about 15 kilometres extra per game. This is showing in the results. Harry Kane opened the score, two minutes later Moura doubled the lead and another three minutes later Wilfried Zaha got red carded. In the second half Heung-Min Son scored the 3-0 to close the game off.

West Ham United versus Southampton

West Ham United versus Southampton was another game with loads of goals. It all started with Elyounoussi who opened the score for Southampton 8 minutes into the game. Then it stayed quiet for a long time, until Antonio scored the equaliser early in the second half. That goal was the start of a chaotic second half, where Southampton got in front twice and West Ham only equalised once. Which gives Southampton a 2-3 victory.

Aston Villa versus Chelsea

After seeing Man City, Spurs and Arsenal all win, Chelsea knew they needed to win this game. An early own goal by Reece James got them a disadvantage. Nevertheless they kept fighting and changed the game. Two penalties and a goal by Lukaku in between, got Chelsea a 1-3 victory over Aston Villa.

Brighton and Hove Albion versus Brentford

Brighton and Hove Albion were slightly the better team in this match. Two beautiful goals brought them a 2-0 lead before half-time. Brentford tried to get one back in the second half, but all their attempts failed. Which gives Brighton a good 2-0 victory in this match.
