2022 Premier League winter transfer window update
The first week in 2022 has passed, which means the transfer window is open again. Since the Newcastle United takeover, people were really looking forward to this transfer window. It’s the first opportunity for the Newcastle owners to stamp their authority and show what they want to do with this club. In this article we discuss a few transfers in the Premier League in the first part of this month.
Everton opens the ball
New Years’ Eve fireworks just dried up or Everton already signed the first player of the year. Vitaliy Mykolenko comes from Dynamo Kiev to Everton. The Ukrainian 22 year old usually playes as a left back. The position of Lucas Digne, who is more than likely to leave Everton this season. On the fourth of January the Toffees also signed Nathan Patterson from Rangers. Which gives them a player for the right back position. Both wingback position are now strengthened by Everton.
Watford improves squad
Watford is one of the teams in the Premier League relegation zone. In an attempt to get out of the relegation zone, the Bees Hornets are busy improving their squad. Hassane Kamara is Watford’s first signing of this season. The left wingback comes over from Nice to join Watford. Brazilian defender Samir comes over from Udinese. Edo Kayembe Is the last signing of Watford so far this window. The Congolese footballer usually plays as defensive midfielder. With three defensive signings, expectations are Watford will conceed less goals the second half of the season.
First big moves on 7th of January
The seventh of January was a special day in the English Premier League. It’s the day that the first big signings were made in this Premier League winter window. Newcastle United made their first signing by buying Atletico Madrid wingback Kieran Trippier. The former Tottenham Hotspur player is back in the Premier League. Another player returns in the Premier League on the same day. Aston Villa announced the loan deal of Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian left the Premier League as a star, but now returns to show he’s still a quality player.
