Arsenal dominates Crystal Palace with 5-1 win

Arsenal made light work of Crystal Palace for the second time in four days, following up their League Cup victory with a resounding 5-1 Premier League triumph at Selhurst Park. Once again, Gabriel Jesus was the star of the show, scoring twice and continuing his remarkable run against the Eagles.

Jesus opens the scoring early

After their midweek encounter, which saw Jesus net a hat-trick to send Arsenal into the League Cup semifinals, Mikel Arteta’s side knew what to expect from Palace. And they wasted no time in asserting their dominance. Just six minutes into the match, Jesus was in the right place at the right time, latching onto a pass to score his first Premier League goal of the season and put Arsenal 1-0 up. Palace responded quickly with Ismaïla Sarr’s equalizer, but any hopes of a comeback were dashed when Jesus struck again. Within 10 minutes of the equalizer, the Brazilian forward found the back of the net once more, giving Arsenal a 2-1 lead. Remarkably, that was his fifth goal against Palace in just 50 minutes of play across two matches.

Injury woes for Arsenal

While Jesus continued his fine form, there was a moment of concern for Arsenal as Bukayo Saka, who had been integral to their attacking play, was forced off with an injury. The young winger's departure added a bit of uncertainty to the visitors' game, but the Gunners remained in control.

Arsenal’s dominance continues

Despite the setback with Saka, Arsenal's attacking prowess showed no signs of slowing down. Palace had some half-chances but failed to capitalize, while Arsenal kept pushing forward. Jesus came agonizingly close to completing his hat-trick, but his header struck the post. Fortunately for Arsenal, Kai Havertz was in the right place to pounce on the rebound and make it 3-1, effectively breaking Palace’s resistance. The Gunners didn’t let up and continued to pile on the pressure. Gabriel Martinelli added a fourth, showcasing Arsenal’s fluid attacking play, while Declan Rice rounded off the scoreline with a well-taken goal to make it 5-1. It was a dominant performance from Arteta’s men, who were fully deserving of the big win.

Arsenal back in the top three

The comprehensive victory allowed Arsenal to leapfrog Nottingham Forest into third place in the Premier League, temporarily closing the gap to the teams ahead of them. With Manchester City and Liverpool continuing to lead the charge, Arsenal will need to maintain this level of performance if they are to keep their title ambitions alive. For Crystal Palace, it was another tough day at the office. Despite the occasional promise from players like Sarr, they were no match for Arsenal’s clinical finishing and dynamic attacking play. Manager Roy Hodgson will have to find a way to shore up his team’s defense as they look ahead to their next match.
