England favourites to host World Cup 2018

Thanks to an impressive network of stadia and the substantial infrastructure already in place, England has been named as the bookies favourites to host the 2018 World Cup. England's bid to host the 2018 World Cup is buoyed by the support of David Beckham, who has lent his influential celebrity profile to the campaign. Despite the favourites tag England faces stiff opposition to host the forthcoming World Cup. In total eleven bids were submitted to FIFA in March of 2009, with England's most serious opposition coming from Russia, a joint bid from Belgium and the Netherlands, and another joint bid from Spain and Portugal. England will have fond memories of the last time they hosted the competition in 1966, having won the trophy in an action packed final against West Germany. There are a number of key factors that bolster the strength of England's bid to host the 2018 World Cup. FIFA President Sepp Blatter recognises that England has a wealth of world class facilities and a proven track record hosting major international events. In addition to this, the team behind England's bid believe that the international appeal of the Premier league can boost the overall commercial revenues of the competition. If their bid to host the 2018 World Cup is successful, England will hope that home advantage will allow them to win their first trophy since 1966.
