Pre-Season: Liverpool 0-0 Tottenham Hostpur

Liverpool concluded their pre-season tour of North America by drawing 0-0 with Premier League rivals Spurs in what turned out to be a surprisingly bad tempered encounter.Ignoring conventions regarding friendly matches, Liverpool's midfielder Charlie Adam decided to launch into a number of challenges, targeting Tottenham's attacking fulcrum Gareth Bale.Bale had to leave the game with a protective boot attached to his left ankle in the 18th minute after one of Adam's lunges. Having previously been injured by Adam, Bale was angered by the challenge and suggested that the combative Scotsman had deliberately sought to harm him. Of Adam, Bale said "I was surprised to see a challenge like that in a friendly. We're all over here to build our fitness and get a good workout and what he did was over the top, to be honest."Bale was scathing about Adam, stating that "the ball was 10 yards past him already and was nowhere near him when he came through my ankle." Adam has chosen not to apologize to Spurs' Welsh winger.Bale's team-mates suggested that Adam acted out of jealousy. As Kyle Walker said, "Adam is jealous as Gareth is such a good player. It just keeps coming up that he doesn't really like him."For Liverpool, Fabio Borini made his debut while Steven Gerrard played 30 minutes. As the season gets underway, buy Liverpool tickets or Spurs tickets online now.
