They say, every record is meant to be broken. Well, for nine years José Mourinho's team never let him down in their home matches. But that dream run saw its end at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium today. There was a sense of poignancy when Real Madrid failed to respond on the goal scored by Sporting de Gijón team and the match ended in the favour of the visitors. Mourinho's luck on the home ground finally ran out after managing 150 matches for Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and now Real Madrid. To be fair to the coach, Mourinho was forced to field an under-strength team with half of star players on bench with injuries or other reasons. Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Karim Benzema were sidelined by injuries and Xabi Alonso was facing suspension. Real Madrid now trails Barcelona by eight points with similar number of matches remaining in the league to overwhelm them. Barcelona did not help Real's cause by winning their match against Villareal 1-0. Even considering the capability of Mourinho's team, the league title is perhaps going to elude Real Madrid this season.
