Anderlecht, Malaga and Braga all advance to CL group stage

Final places in the group stages of the 2012-2013 Champions League have been secured today. Three matches were fairly boring with nothing much different from the first leg as Malaga, Dinamo Zagreb and BATE Borisov all progress with little effort. Anderlecht had to fight for their place with their AEL tie. For the second year in a row, Udinese has failed to qualify for the next round. The Croatian team will be eagerly awaiting the draw on Thursday for the group stage to see who their next opponents will be. Malage 0-0 Panathinaikos (2-0 aggregate score)Malaga earned their first Champions League place after holding onto a 0-0 score against Panathinaikos. Malaga had a 2-0 aggregate score from the first leg after Eliseu and Demichelis both scored in Athens. Udinese 1-1 Braga (2-2 aggregate score and 4-5 penalty score)Braga managed to gain their place after winning a penalty shoot out after playing Udinese. The 1-1 Champions League first leg score could not be improved upon after 90 minutes of play, so the match went into extra time. Extra time also saw no goals scores, leading to a tense shoot-out that would decide the fate of Braga and Udinese. Braga won five penalty shots while Udinese only managed four.AEL Limassol 0-2 Anderlecht (2-3 aggregate score)With two goals scored after the 80th minute, Anderlecht cut the win fine to secure their place. There were very few goal scoring opportunities created in the first half and the game remained level until the break. With less than 10 minutes of play remaining, Anderlecht broke through to deliver two goals and win the match.
