Bayern 1-1 Arsenal (3-1) | Atletico 4-1 AC Milan (5-1)

Bayern Munich 1-1 Arsenal (Agg 3-1)

Bayer Munich progressed to the Champions League quarter-finals with a 1-1 draw against Arsenal at the Allianz Arena last night.

After a goalless first half, Bastian Schweinsteiger put the defending champions ahead when he scored from close-range following a Franck Ribery's left-wing cross.

Lukas Podolski smashed the equalizer two minutes later at the other end when he shrugged off Philipp Lahm on the right side of the box.

Arsenal speeded up the tempo knowing that they needed 2 more goals to progress in the competition but chances fell short.

Bayern earned a penalty in stoppage time after Koscielny brought down Robben in the area but Fabianski stopped Thomas Muller’s shot with his legs and then cleared the loose ball away from the goal-line.

Trailing 2-0 from the first leg, Arsenal could only hold on for the draw in Munich ending their European title hopes this year.

Atletico Madrid 4-1 AC Milan (Agg 5-1)

Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid sealed a spot in the Champions League last eight with an emphatic 4-1 win against AC Milan in Madrid.

The Spanish side came into this match with the advantage of a 1-0 victory recorded in Milan last month.

Diego Costa, who had scored the away goal at San Siro, put Diego Simeone’s men ahead after just 3 minutes at the Vicente Calderon stadium.

AC Milan found the equalizer through Kaka when he headed a cross from the right side in the 27th minute but Arda Turan's deflected shot restored the home side’s lead before half-time.

Raul Garcia scored the third goal for Atletico with a header in the 71st before Diego Costa netted again with 5 minutes remaining to send the Spaniards into the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in 17 years.
