Manchester United wins

Man U started their defence of the Premier League title by winning 2-1 against West Bromwich Albion. Meanwhile the new Chelsea manager, Andre Villas-Boas had to settle for a 0-0 draw against Stoke City. It was plain sailing for the Red Devils after Rooney's opening goal but Atletico Madrid's goalkeeper De Gea, gave West Bromwich an equaliser when he allowed Shane Long's weak shot to trickle through his fingers. Manchester United's victory was secured after an own goal in the 81st minute when a low cross from Ashley Young took a double deflection, before Steven Reid had the final touch to send the ball into the net. Chelsea draws

Chelsea did not manage a victory on the opening day for the first time in 12 seasons after being drawing 0-0 draw with Stoke. Chelsea's game got better during the second half and John Obi Mikel nearly scored.Chelsea's draw follows Arsenal and Liverpool on Saturday. Manchester City will play Swansea at home on Monday.
