In group A, English team Tottenham Hotspur will play FC Rubin Kazan from Russia, Shamrock Rovers FC from Ireland and PAOK FC from Greece. In the following group, Denmark's FC København is clubbed with R Standard de Liège from Belgium, Hannover 96 from Germany and FC Vorskla Poltava from Ukraine. Group C is having the Dutch team PSV Eindhoven, Polish team Legia Warszawa, Israeli Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC and Romanian FC Rapid Bucuresti head to head with each other.

Group E may see a tougher fight between Portuguese club Sporting Clube de Portugal, Italian club SS Lazio, Swiss team FC Zürich and Romanian FC Vaslui. Ukrainian FC Dynamo Kyiv is grouped with English Stoke City FC, Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC of Israel and Besiktas JK of Turkey. French Paris Saint-Germain FC will face Spanish Athletic Club, Slovakian K Slovan Bratislava and Austrian FC Salzburg in Group F.

Group G consists of AZ Alkmaar (the Netherlands), FC Metalist Kharkiv (Ukraine), Malmö FF (Sweden) and FK Austria Wien (Austria). Birmingham City FC is to face SC Braga (Portugal), Club Brugge KV (Belgium) and NK Maribor (Slovenia) in Group H. Group I comprises of Udinese Calcio (Italy), Club Atlético de Madrid (Spain), Stade Rennais FC (France) and FC Sion (Switzerland).

German club FC Schalke 04 is expected to have a tough fight in hand against FC Steaua Bucuresti (Romania), Maccabi Haifa FC (Israel) and AEK Larnaca FC (Cypress) in Group J. On the other hand, English club Fulham FC should find it easy in Group K against FC Twente (the Netherland), Odense BK (Denmark) and Wisla Kraków (Poland). Group is having RSC Anderlecht (Belgium), AEK Athens FC (Greece), FC Lokomotiv Moskva (Russia) and SK Sturm Graz (Austria).
