The Argentinian creative forward Lionel Messi has recently become the first winner of the Fifa Ballon d'Or. Messi was presented with the prize at a Zurich located award ceremony two days ago.The prize, a merger of the European Footballer of the Year award from France Football magazine and the FIFA World Player of the Year award, was presented to the Barcelona player ahead of his team-mates Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez. The three players are all products of Barcelona's highly regarded La Madia youth academy system.Messi, Iniesta and Xavi were als named as part of the FIFA 11-man all star team . The Barcelona FC players were joined by team-mates Carlos Puyol, Gerard Pique and new signing David Villa. Also making the cut were Christiano Ronaldo and Iker Castillas from Real Madrid. Three players from Inter, the defenders Lucio and Maicon plus attacking midfielder Wesley Sneijder also joined the team. Barcelona FC managed to hold onto their Spanish league title last year with much of the credit going to their star forward, Lionel Messi.
